Taufik Batisah received 62% of votes in Singapore Idol final
SINGAPORE : With the overwhelming response to Singapore Idol, MediaCorp has announced the voting differential between Taufik Batisah and Sylvester Sim.
The votes were independently reviewed by international auditors Ernst & Young, at every stage of the competition, and all personnel involved in the voting process had signed non-disclosure agreements.
ms Selena Ho, Channel Vice President of Network Programming & Promotions 5, Mediacorp TV, said, "After Taufik Batisah was crowned our first Singapore Idol, it was clear that he was the people's choice. In the celebratory mood which immediately followed the announcement it was deemed unnecessary to announce the voting differential. The information would also not have made any difference to the result."
She added, "MediaCorp received concerned feedback from many fans and the general public alike. The intensity of the concerns underlined the nation's passionate involvement of their choice of Singapore's very first Singapore Idol, that everyone felt they had a stake in the people's choice."
The result : Taufik Batisah received 62% of the 1.1 million votes, while Sylvester Sim received 38%.
There will be an encore telecast of Singapore Idol - The Final Showdown, on Saturday, 11 Dec 2004 at 7.30pm on MediaCorp TV Channel 5. – cna
